Chris & Cheryl Adams Testimonials

Chris & Cheryl Adams

After Cheryl and I completed an RYA Day Skipper course in Antigua in February 2024, all of our friends started asking us when we were buying our boat. The answer was always an emphatic “never.” I’d always heard that the two happiest days for boat owners are the day they buy it and the day they sell it. I didn’t want the hassle or the expense. And as Coloradans, who are about as landlocked as you can get, it just didn’t seem remotely possible.

However, I couldn’t stop myself from looking. In my googling TMM kept emerging as an exceptional company, one that is human centered rather than corporate, so I made a call. From that moment on I have been impressed with every single person I’ve met at TMM. It sounds cliché, but it really does feel like a family. And, in some ways that’s what it is—the result of 45 years of building by a founder who is still involved in the company and has enduringly infused it with his values and business ethics.

So, in April of 2024 we entered a contract to buy a 2025 Lagoon 42. The icing on the cake was when I learned that Cheryl and I could join the delivery crew bringing her from Europe to the BVI. On September 29 in Cascais, Portugal, we met our new yacht. Pierre and Pascal, the two professional skippers hired for the voyage, had just brought her across the Bay of Biscay, and now we were readying her for the crossing. Our first stop was the Canary Islands and then it was on to the BVI. What an amazing experience, and a sheer pleasure to cross the Atlantic on our own yacht!

When we finally spotted the mountains of Tortola after 25 days at sea, we knew we were home. At the TMM marina we were greeted like old friends. Over the next few weeks the team cleaned her up and added creature comforts, like a water maker and sun lounger and, of course, they affixed her name to the bow and transom. We named her Balancing Act in honor of the company I had built, but also because of the way she dances gracefully on two hulls and represents what sailing is all about—finding harmony, embracing adventure, and making lifelong memories.
