Our Story
The story began with a simple change of plans. In 1983, Barney Crook set out to buy a boat and sail around the world. When that plan fell through, he instead took the opportunity to purchase TMM, a small charter company originally founded in 1979.
What followed was not just the start of a business but the beginning of a long-standing presence in the BVI sailing community.
In those early years, chartering in the British Virgin Islands looked very different. The fleet was varied and hands-on, with everything from wooden sloops to trimarans, and sailing relied more on instinct than instrumentation.
It was a time defined by simplicity, where the experience on the water mattered far more than the technology on board.
Shaping BVI Chartering
As the company grew, so did its influence on the region. In 1989, TMM introduced the first bareboat-charter catamaran in the BVI, recognising the stability, space, and comfort it could offer.
This decision helped shape the future of chartering in the islands and laid the foundation for the catamaran-focused fleet that defines the BVI today.
Today, that same approach continues to guide everything we do, and boat charters remain at the heart of TMM, giving experienced sailors the freedom to explore independently.
At the same time, a range of flexible options ensures every charter feels suited to your level of experience. Whether that means sailing on your own, adding a Check Out Skipper, or choosing a fully skippered charter, the goal is always the same: to create an experience that feels relaxed, capable, and well-supported from the start.

Before you leave the dock, our team provides a thorough boat and chart briefing tailored to your plans for the week.
You will walk through the yacht’s systems, anchoring and mooring procedures, and sit down with a local expert to review routes, conditions, and recommended stops.
Many guests describe this as the moment everything begins to feel clear and manageable, with a strong sense of confidence before setting off.
Our Fleet & Team
Our fleet of modern sailing catamarans is selected with the BVI cruising style in mind. Stable, spacious, and well-suited to island-hopping, each yacht is maintained by a dedicated team that knows every detail of the boats they look after.
Because we manage our fleet directly from our base in Road Town, consistency and reliability remain at the core of every charter.
